Hydrogen – essential for a better environment
The global production of hydrogen is predominantly used in the desulphurisation of the environmentally friendly new generation of fuels. Consequently any hydrogen production plants, which are at the heart of every refinery, are also subject to the most stringent environmental criteria. This means that they are continually being optimised to the limits of feasibility, whilst achieving inordinately high availability levels. It's fair to say that without hydrogen, crude oil couldn't be processed. And it's ThyssenKrupp Uhde engineers who are behind recent critical developments in reformer technology, the technology at the heart of hydrogen production plants. This technology can also be used in a similar form in ammonia and methanol plants.

In 2006 we set up an independent hydrogen & nitrates division as a core competence, resulting in a focussed strategy on our hydrogen plants and nitrate products. This was shown by a considerable increase in our market presence, especially noteworthy examples being the combination of our nitric acid technologies with the innovative EnviNOx® process for the abatement of nitrous oxide (N2O), a greenhouse gas or our patented CO2 free Hydrogen production process. These innovations allow our customers to achieve extremely ambitious economic production targets and at the same time meet the most stringent environmental standards.
